Phosphorus is a naturally occurring element in solid form in rocks. White and red phosphorus have been studied, as well as the alteration to turn red phosphorus to violet or black phosphorus. The rest of the world was okay with this, but the scientists behind Tes-ergy were not satisfied with just that.
When they started the experiments on black phosphorus they were not sure what they were looking for. However, once they were able to run massive amounts of electricity through black phosphorous, the kind provided by a Tesla coil, they discovered blue phosphorus. The black phosphorus, being a great conductor of electricity, was able to sublimate to its gaseous form which was lighter than helium but not nearly as flammable as hydrogen. Black phosphorus is used as a super reactive conductor for the diesel hybrid engines that power most GM/Tesison made military vehicles, and the blue phosphorus that is often released in the process is gathered and collected to be used in zeppelins. Blue phosphorus is also harmless to humans and to the environment.
